* 'Amr ibn al-'As belonged to the Banu Sahm clan of Quraysh.
* In the earlier days he fought with the Quraysh against Islam until he saw the Muslims praying and became interested in Islam which led to his acceptance of the religion.
* He was an Arab military commander known for leading the Muslim conquest of Egypt in 640.
